Welcome to Bikini Bottom!
My name is Ella Bianchi and I will be your dramaturg for Limelight Theatre Company's production of The SpongeBob Musical in addition to playing the role of Mr. Krabs.
For those of you who have not worked with a dramaturg before, you may be asking yourself what exactly dramaturgy is. According to Beehive Dramaturgy Studio, “Dramaturgy is an exploration of the world of the play—both the text itself and how the text engages with the world in which we live.” To sum it up, if you have any questions, I am here to provide research to help you better understand the character(s) you have been tasked with portraying.
This packet is filled to the brim with information including the origins of the cartoon, adaptation from screen to stage, and a glossary of terms that you may not understand from the script. Use the table of contents to help you navigate between the various sections. It is important to understand that the directors do not want to imitate these characters, but understanding their mind and how they interact with others/their environment is important in creating our own interpretations, which is what they are looking for.
